Typhoid Fever

Typhoid Fever:
Typhoid fever is a type of enteric fever known as also typhoid, this is due to a parasite salmonella typhi, after exposure it takes six to thirty days to begin, headache, high fever, abdominal pain, constipation, in rare conditions diarrhoea occurs, in some people, a skin rash appears with rose-colored spots, its parasite grows in intestine and blood, this disease is common in sub continent.
Causes:
Bacteria that causes the typhoid fever spreads through poor sanitation and hygiene conditions, flying insects feeding on feces, pre-cutting fruits, and food items putting in open public places are the main cause of typhoid fever.
Signs and symptoms:
Usually temperature in typhoid 102 F to 104 F but not less than 100 F, general weakness occurs, fatigue, headache, constipation, and sometimes abdominal pain, the lake of appetite, and color of tongue changes.
Treatment:

Minimum 14 days therapy is needed, now a day’s fluoroquinolones such as ciprofloxacin are the drug of choice, third generation cephalosporin’s  such as ceftriaxone or cefotaxime is the first choice, in oral therapy cefixime is suitable, now a day’s very useful antibiotics are available in the market, to reduce fever panadol or nimesulide is used, oral rehydration salts to overcome the dehydration, and multivitamins for weakness.
