Diarrhoea:
In
developing countries contaminated diet, pollution, unhealthy food and hygiene
problems cause a common disease called diarrhoea. Minimum three lose or liquid
bowl movements per day called diarrhoea. Body fluids loss becomes dehydration
in a few days, in dehydration dry skin, decreased urination, irritable behaviour, and
a fast heart rate. Virus especially rotavirus, parasites, bacteria are involved
in intestinal infection in diarrhoea, the second type of diarrhoea called
dysentery, a relapsing condition called traveller diarrhoea is a long term
diseases,
Causes:
Lack of
clean water, lack of refrigerated or fresh food, contaminated diet, none the hygienic atmosphere, bad sanitation especially open defecation are the cause of
infectious diarrhoea, when there is a lack of filtration or purification of water
improper disposal of water leads to contamination of groundwater, in dirty
populated areas fly carry the parasites and spread them among the people.
Zinc deficiency is a cause of diarrhoea in children.
Treatment:
Hand washing
is a good practice to prevent diarrhoea, clean water, hygienic food, good
sanitation and vaccination saves from disease, replacing lost food and body
salts with fluids containing salts and mineral water are the only treatment needed, this
is called oral rehydration therapy by mouth, zinc supplement is the best
alternative therapy, antibiotics for parasites and bacterial diarrhoea
treatment, probiotics also play an important role in diarrhoea, antimotility an agent like loperamide, Pepto Bismol, and stomach antiseptics like furazolidone
and diloxanide also reduce the frequency and treatment of diarrhoea.
